Forms for physicals - Important!

I was bit surprised today to learn from the sport co-od that as of today, only 1 person has handed in physical forms yet for Cycling. Please note, without forms you can't compete for UB in the collegiates. You will also be officially excluded from the roster. The free sessions are over. Those who didn't take advantage of it and want to race next year, get in touch with the Sports Health Center at Farber Hall on South Campus. I'm not really sure of the fee you need to pay. Or if you got your physicals done, drop in the filled forms into Alyssa Teven's mailbox in 350 SU building. There's no financial point in hauling 300 miles to a race with just 1 or 2 people. We do need a TEAM here!

T.O. Bike show Oct 13

10-5p Direct Energy Center @ Exhibition place Admission $5 at the door and figure $10 for parking Link Ontario bike shops clearing out stock for next years. There will probably be some decent deals there, although with the cost of the dollar being what is the deals are not what they once were.

Club Update

Looks like the wool jerseys might be a no go, because of issues with the supplier. If that is the case we're going with Hincapie Sports. They are offering us great prices and their min. order is only 10 pcs. The price for a wool jersey + bib is about the same as a long sleeve jersey + vest + bib.

We're required to do 2-2-2, 2 SA volunteer events, 2 fund raisers and attend 2 SA event. We probably have 2 SA events completed. So we need to do the other 2s. The deal is the club is going to give everyone who attends discounts on the clothing order, 10% for each event, that means you can potentially get 40% off your total clothing order for next year, if you attend all the required events. Also note, if you don't attend at least one event you're not welcomed to ride or race with us.

For all those that are planning on racing next season, you must be van tested if you have a driver's license.

The spinning class is free to club members. This is something you might want to consider during the winter month. Thanks Peelee

Tomorrow is the last free physical offered. Please take advantage if you need a physical done.

An interesting sign we saw on last weekend's ride (at least to me)

Weekend Riding

Since the weather spoiled last weekend's fun. This Saturday we're going over some hills in the Lindenhurst area. This is a great opportunity for those on north campus that wants to come out and ride. I have to go to a SA orientation meeting in the morning so I'll be on north for about 2 hours, we can meet and head out together around 12pm. You must let me know that you're coming or I'll not wait for you.

The ride is not easy because of the hills, but it's not very difficult either. We'll meet at South Campus's main stop at 12:30pm and we should be back before 6pm.

Here is the route

For Sale!

My racing season is 90% to completion, so I'm getting rid of my inventory of used and new road parts. I ride a lot, but I also take good care of my components. Note : Items 3 through 7 will be available in the next 5-10 days. Item#9, I hate to watch it go. It is super rare, a number 1 item among weight weenies. The product is not made any more. I used it for 70-80 miles at most, not at all abused. These babies will favor the long climbs. Retail price was boy, lets not say it here. Just check this link : http://www.wisecyclebuys.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=452 Item#10 is just for those boys who made some nice money this summer, and don't mind adding some extra bling bling to their project road bike. This was competitive cyclists' (www.competitivecyclist.com) last stock, they don't sell it anymore. It is RACE SPECIFIC, not for everyday group rides. Today if you have to get one of these babies, you have to special order it through Germany. No, don't look at eBay. You won't find it there. Retail was $350. 1. SOLD Fizik Arione Saddle (Blue color w/ Ti rails), $50 - Used for 4 or 5 races this season. 2. Specialized Carbon Fibre Seatpost, $20 3. Shimano 105 9 speed cassette, 12-25T , $20 4. Specialized Road Racing Handlebars Alloy (width - 42cm c-c), $25 5. 2006 Shimano Dura Ace 9 speed Crankset, 170mm length, silver - 2000 miles, plenty of life still left in it + Shimano Octalink BB, $45 6. Shimano Dura Ace 9 speed Rear Derailler, Long cage, works very well for double or triple setups, $25 7. Shimano Road Brakes, $15 8. Specialized Triple Chainring Crankset - $10 9. SOLD M2 Racer ORB II pedals, Ti spindles, 99 grams per set, $130, comes with cleats, SPD 3 hole type compatible with bolts and instruction manual all in original box. 10. SOLD Wipperman Connex 9 speed Titanium (9TR), lightest titanium chain in the market. New In Box Never Used, 116 links, 248 grams, $250 Keep watching this list, I may add more cheap parts over the next 3-4 weeks. Point of sale will be on the UB North Campus, no checks accepted sorry. Ride Thursday

In celebration of the no school day, I'm gonna be going for a ride. It will likely be a loop of grand island leaving from south campus. I'm gonna start fairly early (about 8ish). Let me know if you are interested and if you want to suggest a different route

Commuting

Since many of us live near South, together we can commute to North and back. This is a great way to get comfortable with each other's wheels without taking too much time out of the day or wait for group rides.

These skills will also transfer over to racing.

Tuesday Training Rides

Is anyone interested in training rides on Tuesdays? Either in the morning to end by 11:30 or in the afternoon starting around 3:00? They could leave from South or North, but preferably South. I'm trying to work out some decent ways to escape the city from South campus. If anyone has thoughts on escape routes with minimal danger & frustration, please share them! Comment to this post or email me: josephholler@yahoo.com if interested.

"You Must Do The Following!"

Yes, yes, those are the kind words of SA.

In celebration of the the new semester, SA has given us new forms to fill out. New riders must fill out four forms. A physical, an health update, an insurance form and an emergency card. They didn't say anything about current riders, but I'm guessing an health update is in order. All forms are in 350 Student Union (North Campus).

I can't go around chasing forms, we're all responsible people here, get the forms filled out and leave them in the UB Cycling mail box in the main SA Office (350 SU), the forms are available in 350 SU. If SA gets on my ass about it, then I must get on yours as well. These forms are short and relatively painless, probably takes a few minutes for each one.

Free physicals @ Clark Hall:

Monday 9/10, 5-7pm, Thursdays 8/30, 9/06, 9/20, 5-7pm (all three days)

Also there is a meeting for all sports club on 9/04 @ 7pm in 330 SU, I can't go so I need a person to do me a favor and go instead. We're suppose to have two people there. I will try to catch the meeting but will be about an hour late. I don't know how long the meet will be but if it goes pass an hour I'll meet up with you.

TTT practice

Tomorrow @ 7:00am we are going to do a TTT practice on the G. Island course. We should be back well before 10am. The whole ride should take no more than three hours, probably under two. There probably will be one next Wednesday as well. We will practice pace line, 30secs - 1 minute pulls, rider rotation and maintaining speed. Meet on South Campus.

Next Ride + Job + TTT

Hi All!

Today turned out to be a great day of riding. If you weren't there, don't fuss. There will be more to come. A three day weekend is coming up, so you know we have something awesome planned. Next Sunday we're heading to East Arura area for flats of a different kind. It will be mostly rolling hills and traffic will be very lite with maybe a few climbs. I will try to get an SA (Student Association) van for the day, but since it's very early in the semester, I may not be able to get one. Details will be posted when the day is near.

Also as a club we have to do a certain amount of SA volunteering to be on good terms with SA. There is a great one coming up on 9/08 it is for the Fall Fest, they are hiring 200 event staffs. I know the music might not be all that great, but there is money and volunteering credit involved. Two for one, what's not to like?!? For those that work the event, the money we earn will come back to you directly in forms of a jersey discount or something bike related. Your choice! You need to let me know if you can do this by Thursday 8/30, so I can get in touch with SA and get the job because these things fill up very fast! There are three shifts:

1.) Pre show [8:30am-4:00pm]

2.) During show [3:30pm-11:30pm]

3.) Clean up [11:00pm-2:00am]

There will be a Grand Island TTT (Team Time Trial) 9am on 9/09 (Sunday), ~12.2 miles, mostly flat, constant headwind. I'm confident that we already have a three person team going into the race, but I would like a five man team if possbile. Get in touch with me if you're in.

Welcome Back Ride

Many have been asking about rides. Let's get a social ride to Grand Island, we'll do a bit of riding then relax a bit on the beach, it's always a fun time. No drop rule will be in effect. We won't try to maintain an pace, unless everyone thinks they are up for it. This is more of a get to know everyone ride, so don't expect a workout. The ride is less than 50 miles, the distance might put some in discomfort, but we'll take breaks at certain points to rest up.

Sunday (08-26) @7:30am, South Campus, Main Bus stop, (there is a picture of the stop, look at past posts.)

Also, are there any interest in MTB races? It's starting soon XC, ST, DS, DH. It's on!

Newbie to Buffalo

Hey everyone! I'm a newbie to the Buffalo area and would love to learn some good roads to ride. Is anyone up for an early morning (8am) outing this weekend...40-60miles? 17-19mph avg? if we get a big group, possibly faster...
